Computer and internet

  • Wireless infrastructure has been incorporated into all teaching spaces throughout the school, including the Library and the Sports Hall.

  •  

  • In the senior school, the 1:1 laptop program has been operating for three years now and this year 98% of year 11 students have opted into the take home program.

  •  

  • In the junior school both ImmerseIT and AA students now have either laptops or tablets and this year the number of students enrolled in the ImmerseIT program doubled in Year 8.

  •  

  • Students in the junior school currently access 150 desktop computers via 5 labs and 60 laptops/tablets via laptop trolleys available in CRIMS and Music.

  •  

  • In addition, most classrooms in the school have 5-8 desktop computers in them for students to access the internet and work on assignments.

  •  

  • Industry standard software is installed on desktop and laptop computers: MYOB for accounting students, Adobe Creative Suite for Media Art and Multimedia students, Sibelius for the Music students, and the CAD lab has AutoDesk installed for Graphics students to use.

  •  

  • Several rooms in F block, CRIMS and the newly refurbished Maths block now have touch screen digital TVs.

  •  

  • C block computer rooms were also recently refurbished to include Interactive data projectors in every room.

  •  

  • In addition various other digital equipment is being used throughout the school, including video cams, digital still cameras, iPads and bloggies.

  •  

  • On-line learning in now integral to the way that content is delivered across a large range of subjects and is no longer only used in ImmerseIT.

  •  

  • Teachers at Sandgate District State High School are committed to implementing eLearning into their pedagogical practice and continue to undertake regular PD specifically related to digital literacy.
