Library Services

The Library is open Monday to Thursday from 8.30am to 3.30pm. On Fridays it is open from 8.30am, closes at first break, and re-opens until 3.00pm.
Our library promotes lifelong learning through the enjoyment of reading and research, and links with community activities and facilities. Our collection is an ever-changing range of quality print and digital media resources aimed at supporting the school curriculum as well as reading for pleasure.  Computing, wi-fi, printing, photocopying and scanning facilities are all available within the library. School identification is required for borrowing, and the ID card speeds access to printing.

Tips for researching outside school
Beyond internet searches, you can access good resources outside school if you join a Brisbane City Council Library, obtain a Library card from the State Library, or consult the University of Queensland Cyberschool.  The BCC Library site offers many useful databases that source material from newspapers, journal, books and other places.  The State Library of Queensland also offers members at home access to a number of useful similar databases via their library card.
Due to licensing and security restrictions, the school Library catalogue and DVC Player are not available outside the school computer network.  If you wish to view a DVC program at home it must be saved to a USB or to your laptop computer when at school.  On computers use VLC Player to replay the DVC file.  Some USB equipped televisions do not have the correct programming installed to play sound from a DVC file saved to USB.

Referencing your research
To respect the work of original authors or creators, use the information regarding in-text referencing and reference list creation from the QUT, QUT CITE WRITE.  Sandgate District SHS uses Harvard referencing standard, so please ensure you always select the Harvard option.
